Capstone project 4th visit

On wednesday April 3, 2013 I spent a total of 9 hours with my mentor. I got to experience seeing a biopsy for the first time it was pretty intresting. The reason why the biopsy was being done was because the patient was dicovered to have an area around the jaw to be less dense on the bone then its surrounding. A small insicion was made to get a bit of sample tissue and blood just to make sure its not cancerous or anything. After the samples were collected they were sent to UCSF for further evaluation.  I also continued to learn how to talk to patients and how to set up rooms for surgeries. You must be very careful while cleaning the surgery rooms. You must wear gloves at all times. And one of the top rule is avoid cross contamination. They take cross contamination very seriously. This also includes while steralizing the surgical tools. This is while you should never touch the dirty tools with the clean ones. You have to be changing gloves every minuite. It gave me the chance to learn how to properly handle these situations safely without any complications. I am not sure when the next time i will be meeting with my mentor but i hope to get more experience on steralization.
